Google Nexus 7: Mounting USB Storage Not Recognised

The recently unveiled Nexus 7 tablet will be the first device to run the latest version of Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system. As of today, Asus claims that the shipping build of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean does not support the Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) which would let it to double as an HDMI port, nor advanced USB On-The-Go (OTG) functionality, according to The Verge.

The MHL is an industry standard for a mobile audio/video interface that allows in directly connecting your smartphone and other portable consumer electronics gadgets to high-definition televisions (HDTVs) and displays.

"USB-OTG is indeed supported on the Nexus 7, however as anyone who has used USB-OTG knows, whether peripherals or devices work is a function of the host OS and drivers," explains Anand Tech. The site points out that a mouse and keyboard are supported on the Nexus 7 tablet. But, unfortunately Nexus 7 will not support mounting USB storage, while it is reported that the devices that will be rooted will have the ability to utilise the StickMount and can make it function. According to reports, the Nexus 7 will not support the MHL since the addition of MHL will need another package and could increase BOM cost.

The Nexus 7 is expected to be available in mid-July. It is priced at $199 (?127.6) for an 8GB model and $249 (?159.7) for a 16GB model of Nexus 7. "The Nexus 7 tablet embodies the moment when tablet buyers no longer have to compromise performance for price," claims CNET. Amazon's Kindle Fire seems to have ruled over other budget-friendly tablets, while now we could hope the Nexus 7 to revolutionise the tablet market. The tablet appears to be impressive and is expected to compete with Kindle Fire, Nook tablet and the new iPad. It comes with a 7in LED back-lit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels at 216 pixels per inch (ppi). It is powered by the Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 12-core GPU. It packs a 4325mAh Li-Ion battery and is expected to provide up to eight hours of active use.

Britton named new Arnold boys basketball coach

Bobby Britton was the best dressed junior varsity boys basketball coach in Bay County last season. He?ll be the best dressed varsity head coach in Bay County next season.

Britton was named the new boys coach at Arnold late Thursday. He takes over for James Baxley, who wasn?t asked to return following eight years at the position. The Marlins finished 8-18 last season with only one senior.

Britton spent three seasons under the tutelage of Mosley coach Chris Martello. Britton was the JV head coach last season, leading the Dolphins to a 13-6 finish.

He made a name for himself by coaching in fine Dillard?s suits, choosing the fancier digs over polo shirts worn by most of his contemporaries.

?I have to bring that style with me,? Britton said. ?I just have to change up the shirt and tie now, suits are too expensive to buy more.?

Britton is aware that looking good on the sidelines is one thing, but looking good on the court is much more important. The former Mosley standout and Faulkner University football player has guided the Panama City Elite AAU team the past two years. He has coached many of the Dolphins who made improvements and went on to college, including Kurt Barger.

Britton, 24, said Arnold Principal Keith Bland kept a trained eye on him during his days at Mosley and beyond.

?He has been looking at me ever since I moved back to the area,? Britton said. ?He saw something in me that I also saw in myself at a young age.

?I?m really excited. He wants a young guy that?s innovative and creative and will be around a while. I?ll start the program from the bottom and bring them to the top.?

Britton said he will infuse the basketball program with other young coaches. He plans to bring along his AAU assistant, Matt Griffin, as well as bringing back former Marlins? star Tyler Schwab on the staff. Britton also has extended an invitation to Frankie Padula, the duo attending Mosley and Faulkner together, to be the strength and conditioning coach.

Britton said he will also speak with members of Baxley?s staff, including Rich Blaho, who has been instrumental in organizing the Marlins? annual Christmas tournament. Britton said Blaho is a diligent worker and his knowledge of basketball is invaluable.

Britton will teach history at the school. His aim is to turn around the recent history for Arnold, which has produced struggles, and make the Marlins synonymous with style and excellence, like his perfectly tailored suits.

?Not much is expected from Arnold, I feel, in the community,? Britton said. ?I think we can make basketball and our athletics the best in the county.

?We want to bring that passion and excitement we created at Mosley and bring it out to the beach. We think it?s possible to change the team?s mentality and be ready to compete sooner than later.?

Business Advertising Directories ? SMB Advice & Tips

Online business advertising directories are an essential part of building and maintaining your small business? online presence. Not only do these directories help increase exposure, business directories can add relevancy to your site which is vital for search engine ranking.

There is a wide range of online advertising directories. Some offer free submissions, others charge fees. Some are designed as general directories; others are industry or location specific. A concentrated effort to list your business in multiple directories is a low cost way to gain online exposure.

The advantages of listing your business in as many directories as possible go beyond increased exposure to potential customers. Incoming links to your web site are of critical importance when it comes to search engine rankings. Search engines, like Google, place significant emphasis on link popularity, or the number of outside links pointing to your web site. Business directory listings play an important role in increasing incoming links.

Many directory listings allow customers to rate and review their experiences with your business. While this can be a two-edged sword, positive reviews and comments can greatly increase your customer base. If someone posts a negative experience, most directory sites allow a rebuttal, giving you the perfect opportunity to regain goodwill, address the submitters issue, and show other potential customers that you are committed to quality and customer satisfaction.

Of course, increased exposure is one of the main advantages of using a variety of business directories. It stands to reason that the more directories in which your business listing appears, the more people will be drawn to your web site.

There are three main types of business directories. They are:

GeneralRegionalIndustry Specific

General business advertising directories list businesses in all industries, specializations, and regions. Most general business directories offer free listings and differing levels of more prominent sponsored listing options. Examples of general business advertising directories include:

Business.com ? Business.com is a general business site dedicated to providing business information, how-to articles, directories, and additional resources. Directories match customers with needed services and products. Free listings, pay-per-click, and banner advertising levels are available.

RichDir.com ? Rich?s business directories provide a wealth of business information as well as business listings. Listings are submitted by business owners and reviewed for acceptance. Premium listings are available.

Best of the Web ? Best of the Web is one of the oldest directory sites. Not a business specific direction, they feature general, blog, and local directories, business owners may create their own listing, upload photos, and take advantage of a free get started option.

DMOZ ? DMOZ, or the Open Directory Project, is a large, comprehensive, human-edited web directory. A global community of volunteers maintains and constructs the directories. All listings, including those for business, are free.

Regional directories list businesses in specific geographical locations. Most regional directories break local businesses into industry categories and encourage customer reviews. Many regional directories offer business owners the opportunity to announce events, create coupons, monitor visitor traffic, and contact customers privately. Some of the currently popular regional business advertising directories include:

Yelp ? Yelp offers free listings for business owners and managers. ?Yelpers? rate and review various types of businesses, from restaurants to pet sitters. Yelp encourages users to socialize using online chatting and community tools.

Google Places ? Google Places offers free business listings with some advanced features. Photos, coupons, directions, and more can be included in a Google Places listing. Listing with Google Places improves your visibility in Google search listings and on Google Maps.

Yellow Pages ? A popular destination for consumers, Yellow Pages offers a free basic business listing and various paid options.

Yellow Book ? Yellow Book is another popular local search directory for consumers. Yellow Book offers a wide variety of free and premium tools for business owners.

CitySlick.net ? CitySlick.net offers a free service and various levels of premium features, including video promotions and classified ads.

Industry-related business advertising directories focus on a specific business type. Consumers looking for a competent attorney, for example, enter their zip code in a web site search field and receive a listing of nearby professionals. Some industry directories provide contact forms for each listing so that potential clients may contact the business professional directly.

Other useful types of business directories include listings with your local Chamber of Commerce, professional organizations, and local media web sites.

Summer Challenge- Health, Exercise, Fitness, Workout, Personal ...

The Summer challenge is in full effect! Some people have asked why 10 events, and how we picked them. We wanted an event that would test a broad range of skills, one that had things that we rarely do, and some that are just fun. Some are pure strength (seated barbell press) but not often trained. Others are a test of will (max distance prowler) and some are just a big fat surprise (triple jump)

One workout that has been fun to watch is a version of Crossfit?s famed ?Christine? (500m row/12 bw deadlifts/21 24? box jumps 3 rounds). We dropped the box jumps to 17? for men and 14? for women so the times FLY! Leaders are in the 9 minute range now and getting faster!

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Scientists could take greater strides toward crop improvement if there were wider adoption of advanced techniques used to understand the mechanisms that allow plants to adapt to their environments, current and former Purdue University researchers say.

In a perspective for the journal Science, Brian Dilkes, a Purdue assistant professor of genetics, and Ivan Baxter, a research computational biologist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service, argue that today's technology could allow scientists to match physiological and genetic characteristics of plants with the soil characteristics that promote or inhibit their growth. Making those connections could reduce the time necessary to improve plants that are coping with changing environmental and climatic conditions.

"Evolution has solved the problems that we face in terms of adapting plants to grow in a multitude of environments," Dilkes said. "If we understand these processes, we'll be able to apply that knowledge to maintaining diversity in natural systems and improving and maintaining crop yield."

The majority of a plant's makeup, besides carbon dioxide, comes from elements and minerals absorbed from the soil as the plant grows. The physiological and genetic mechanisms that allow plants to obtain iron from the soil, for instance, can also cause the plant to accumulate other elements. Understanding how those changes interact is an important piece of improving plants, Baxter said.

"This is just a hint of the complexity that's out there," said Baxter, a former post-doctoral researcher at Purdue who works for the USDA at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis. "If we're going to make the necessary improvements in agricultural productivity, we will have to move forward with these techniques."

Much of the work done to understand how plants have adapted to their environments focuses on one gene and one element it controls at a time. Pinpointing one or more genes responsible for a particular trait can take years, even decades.

Dilkes and Baxter believe a wider adoption of molecular phenotyping techniques, such as ionomics and genome-wide association mapping, could allow scientists to work with multiple elements and genes at once.

"By focusing on one gene or one element at a time, you miss out on the other physiological mechanisms occurring in the plant," Dilkes said. "The potential to broaden our understanding of these complex interactions and have a dramatic effect on agriculture is there."

Genome-wide association mapping allows scientists to find genetic associations among multiple phenotypes, or physical traits. The process quickly shows which genes may be responsible for the physical characteristics.

Ionomics studies the elemental composition of plants and how those compositions change in response to environmental or genetic changes.

"Experiments with thousands of samples are now possible," Baxter said. "We've just started to put these things together."

Learn Effective Personal Finance Practices With Our ... - Turnkey Loan

Don?t make the mistake of neglecting to maintain your home or your vehicle in an attempt to save money. Doing maintenance is a way to safeguard yourself from serious problems in the future. By taking care of the things that belong to you will save more money as time passes.

Almost everyone makes mistakes with their finances. You can request a waived fee for a one-time bounced check from your bank. This is usually a one-time courtesy that banks extend to good customers.

If you?re not yet 21 years of age and are looking for a credit card, you should know that things have changed recently. In the past, it was very easy for a college student to get a credit card. You must have a cosigner or an income that can be proven. Read the literature of a credit card offer before you apply for it.

Utility bills are an expense that you must stay on top of to improve your credit rating. Paying them late can damage your credit rating. Your credit rating will suffer if you pay late and you may also pay late fees too. Avoid the troubles that are associated with paying bills late by always paying your bills in a timely manner.

Using small steps can help to rebuild your personal finances. Forgo that daily stop at the cafe and make your own coffee instead. By doing this, it will help keep $25 in your pocket. Replace your auto commute with a public transit ride. Doing this can easily save you a couple hundred dollars every month. You can add this money up to use for any big investments you might have in the future. Those are definitely worth more than a single cup of coffee.

If you want to buy a big-ticket item on credit in the near future, raise your credit score before doing so. There are a couple of ways to do this. You can either take out a small personal loan and repay it on an accelerated schedule, or open a couple of credit cards and build an excellent payment history. Try paying more than your minimum on every bill.

Pay off your credit card accounts with the highest interest rate first. The higher interest cards will cause you the most over time, as it is imperative to reduce these immediately. This is very important, since credit rates are expected to rise soon.

Stop spending money on things that promise you money overnight. Internet marketing, for example, is a field that makes it all too easy to waste more money than one makes back. If you execute what you pay to learn, then your profits will increase greatly.

Invest overseas a bit as well. The easiest way to do this is by getting a mutal fund, a no-load type. This type of mutual fund is diverse and cuts down on the amount of research to do beforehand.

To save money, experiment with name, store and generic brand foods and products. A lot of the time the store brand is almost the same as the original, with a lower price. Compare the ingredients of your favorite brand with the ingredients of the off brand products to see how similar they actually are. Purchasing generic food items can save you money, so give them a try.

Don?t neglect a flexible spending account, if you have one. Flexible spending accounts can really save you cash, especially if you have ongoing medical costs or a consistent daycare bill. With such an account, you can deposit money directly, before it gets taxed. There are rules to set one up; a tax professional can help.

If you are married, you should have the spouse with the best credit apply for loans. If you have bad credit, take the time to build it with a credit card that you pay off regularly. Once you are both happy with your credit score you?ll be able to get loans and spread the debt out more evenly.

As was discussed previously, good money management as well as bad dominates every part of your life. Be sure that you maximize these good things by incorporating these guidelines into your personal finances.

Need A Credit Card? Use This Information

Credit cards have almost become naughty words in our society today. Our dependence on them is not good. Many people don?t feel as though they could live without them. Others know that the credit history that they build is essential, in order to have many of the things we take for granted such as a car or a home. This article will help educate you about their proper usage.

Take advantage of security features that your credit card company might offer. These might include things like adding your picture to your credit card. This is an additional step that merchants can use to verify that you are the person using the card, allowing them to help you keep your card safe from criminal activity.

An important tip when it comes to smart credit card usage is, resisting the urge to use cards for cash advances. By refusing to access credit card funds at ATMs, you will be able to avoid the frequently exorbitant interest rates, and fees credit card companies often charge for such services.

Shred old credit card receipts and statements. You can easily purchase an inexpensive home office shredder to handle this task. Those receipts and statements, often contain your credit card number, and if a dumpster diver happened to get hold of that number, they could use your card without your knowledge.

If you have any credit cards that you have not used in the past six months, then it would probably be a good idea to close out those accounts. If a thief gets his hands on them, you may not notice for a while, because you are not likely to go looking at the balance to those credit cards.

Most people would agree that credit cards have a useful role to play in everyday personal finances. The important thing to understand is that along with the convenience they can offer, comes the necessity of adhering to strict principles of appropriate usage. The tips and guidance contained in this article can provide an important framework for the wise management of your personal finances.

Press Release/ Deluge of In-vehicle Information to Trigger a - PRZoom

The exponential growth of in-vehicle information is triggering a revolution in the design of display systems in the automotive infotainment market. The ubiquitous presence of Smartphones has led to a demand for the same functionalities to be present inside cars. Technologies such as touch screens and large displays have become a commodity in the automotive infotainment domain. As vehicles rely more and more on sophisticated forms of technology, the requirements for onboard information displays are becoming increasingly comprehensive and diverse.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (automotive.frost.com), Strategic Analysis of European and North American Markets for Display and Instrument Clusters, finds that in Europe, the market size for central displays, touch screens and head up displays is estimated to reach 9.5 million, 2 million and 0.5 million, respectively, by 2017. In North America, the market size for central displays, touch screens and head up displays is anticipated to reach 6 million, 3 million and 0.4 million, respectively, by 2017.

"The availability of Internet connectivity has led to the proliferation of various web services, Smartphone applications and entertainment-related functions inside vehicles," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Krishna Jayaraman. "This has led to the need for large and intelligent information display systems, which could house all the information content."

The ever growing consumer demand for in-vehicle information related to comfort, convenience and safety has led to an information overload. It has spurred the development of new technologies and bigger displays to portray this information.

"Information management is a big challenge and is closely related to driver distraction," remarks Jayaraman. "Automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are in a situation where they have to achieve a balance between offering new technologies to stay ahead of the competition and keeping the human machine interface (HMI) as easy as possible; prioritisation and splitting information to different in-vehicle displays is the need of the hour."

Driver distraction, fuelled by information overload, highlights the need for HMI solutions which not only store additional information, but also limit the amount of information projected to the driver by prioritising it.

There is an increased need for large central displays to house more information. However, multi-modality of input interfaces alone will not help; information will have to be split to different display options, according to priority.

"For instance, functions which are vehicle-specific and necessary while driving should be projected on the head up displays and instrument cluster, while other entertainment features can reside on central displays," suggests Jayaraman. "Additionally, restricting the freedom to access web-based content to limit distraction will be pivotal."

(AP) ? President Barack Obama is hauling in millions of dollars for his re-election bid as he warns that Democrats will face a fundraising onslaught from Republicans during the fall campaign.

Obama was to collect more than $2.3 million at fundraisers in Atlanta and Miami on Tuesday following top-dollar events Monday night in Boston.

Republican challenger Mitt Romney raised more than $76 million last month for his presidential campaign and the GOP, and Obama's advisers expect Republican-leaning super PACs to pull in $1.2 billion before the election, posing a big-money challenge for the president. Obama has more than $100 million in his campaign account, but Democratic super PACs have struggled to raise money, making it possible that an incumbent president will be outspent.

"They will spend more money than we have ever seen in American history, and their message is very simple," Obama said in Boston. "They will just tell you that the economy is not where it needs to be, the economy is bad, and it's all my fault."

Obama has tried to portray Romney's business record in a negative light, pointing to a report that the private equity firm once run by Romney invested in companies that outsourced jobs to China and India. To drive home that theme, Obama's campaign started airing state-specific ads Tuesday in Virginia, Iowa and Ohio with a tag line that asks if voters "really want an outsourcer-in-chief in the White House."

Romney's campaign has said the report did not differentiate between "domestic outsourcing" and "offshoring" and don't take into account work done overseas to support U.S. exports.

Obama was holding the fundraisers at the start of a pivotal week for his campaign. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on Obama's health care overhaul law this week, passing judgment on the most significant piece of legislation during his presidency.

During the Boston events, the president made no mention of the Supreme Court's ruling Monday on Arizona's immigration law. The court struck down parts of the immigration law, but allowed a section of the law requiring police to check the immigration status of someone they stop for another reason and whom they suspect is in the country illegally.

Obama said in a statement that "no American should ever live under a cloud of suspicion just because of what they look like" and said police in Arizona should not enforce the provision in a way that undermines civil rights.

The president was speaking Tuesday at two fundraisers in Atlanta, followed by two events in Miami Beach, including a performance by singer Marc Anthony.

SF State research suggests gay dads may experience lifestyle shifts that reduce HIV risk

Gay parents face many of the same challenges as straight parents when it comes to sex and intimacy after having children, according to a new study of gay fathers published in the journal Couple and Family Psychology. The findings suggest that gay male couples who are raising children may experience lifestyle changes that could reduce their HIV risk.

"When gay couples become parents, they become very focused on the kids, they are tired, there is less time for communication and less desire for sex," said Colleen Hoff, professor of sexuality studies at San Francisco State University. "They go through a lot of the same changes as heterosexual couples who have kids."

Nationwide, approximately one in five gay male couples is raising children. Hoff and colleagues studied whether becoming a parent causes gay dads to change their lifestyle in ways that protect them from risky sexual behavior, or if the stress of parenting leads to increased health risks such as infidelity and unprotected sex with outside partners. The researchers interviewed 48 gay male couples who are raising children together.

"We found that gay fathers have less time for sex and less emphasis on sexuality, which could mean they are at less risk for HIV," Hoff said. "Many fathers said they feel a sense of responsibility toward their children which motivates them to avoid risky sexual behavior."

Many of the couples reported that having children increased their commitment to each other and deepened their relationship. Fathers reported they gained a new admiration for their partner as they observed them parenting.

Couples said they have sex less frequently since becoming parents, but few found this to be problematic. "From the fathers we studied, there was this pragmatic acceptance that this is what happens at this stage of life," Hoff said.

One surprising finding is that becoming parents did not affect the couples' sexual agreements -- the contracts that many gay male couples make about whether sex with outside partners is allowed.

"There wasn't the shift that we thought we might find," Hoff said. "For the most part, those who were monogamous before becoming parents said they stayed with that arrangement. Those who had open relationships before having children reported that they kept to that agreement."

While some of the lifestyle changes associated with parenthood might reduce HIV risk for gay couples, the study highlighted some changes that could raise problems for couples with open sexual agreements. These couples had fewer opportunities to discuss their sexual agreements with each other, and a few men said that once they became a parent they felt uncomfortable talking to their friends or their doctor about the fact that they are in an open relationship.

"Some men felt that there is this assumption that if you are a gay parent you are monogamous," Hoff said. "This kind of stigma around gay parents' sexuality could be a concern if gay fathers are reluctant to talk to their physician about their sexual agreement and get tested for HIV.

The study warns physicians and counselors against making assumptions about gay fathers and stresses the importance of offering them opportunities to discuss their sexual agreements and access to testing services. In particular, the study highlights the need for HIV prevention programs to find alternative ways to reach gay fathers since they spend less time in gay social venues where sexual health messages are typically promoted.

This research was funded by the National Institute of Mental Health.

"Impact of parenting on gay male couples' relationships, sexuality and HIV risk" was published in the journal Couple and Family Psychology on June 25, 2012. In addition to Hoff, authors include Sean C. Beougher and Carmen Gomez Mandic from San Francisco State University and David Huebner and Julia E. Mackaronis from the University of Utah.

Colleen Hoff is professor of sexuality studies at San Francisco State University and director of the University's Center for Research and Education on Gender and Sexuality.

Sony, Panasonic tying up in advanced TV displays

Long-time Japanese rivals Sony Corp. and Panasonic Corp. are working together to develop next-generation TV panels called OLEDs in a reversal of decades of rivalry as they try to catch up with South Korea's Samsung Electronics.

The companies said in a joint statement Monday they will share core technologies to develop OLED, or organic light-emitting diode, panels. They are aiming for low-cost mass production by 2013.

Both Sony and Panasonic have posted big losses after falling behind Samsung Electronics Co. and other Asian rivals in TVs. The joining of forces marks a departure from a long rivalry and highlights the pressure that Japanese manufacturers face to catch-up with Samsung in TVs.

Samsung is planning to start selling TVs with big OLED screens later this year. OLEDs use a different technology from Liquid Crystal Displays and delivers very clear, vivid imagery.

Fitch Ratings said the Sony-Panasonic tie-up underlined "the fall of Japanese tech companies," as such a tie-up was previously "unthinkable."

"Japanese OLED investment is better late than never," said Alvin Lim, Associate Director at Fitch. "While consumer demand for OLED is still unproven, without investment Japanese manufacturers could become stranded in the TV market should this technology become mainstream."

Sony was the first in the world to sell an OLED TV, with its 11-inch model in 2007, but it wasn't a strong seller, partly because of its small size.

Sony buys liquid-crystal displays from other manufacturers. It ended its joint-venture with Samsung to make LCDs earlier this year as panel prices fell and it became more cost-efficient to buy from other makers.

Both Sony and Panasonic reported record losses for the fiscal year ended March 31. They took a battering from plunging prices and a soaring yen, which puts the Japanese at a disadvantage against the Koreans, in price competitiveness.

Analysts say the Japanese could also be hit by Apple Inc.'s foray into TVs that may come in a couple of years. Apple has already eroded the profitability of the Japanese electronics makers with its hit iPod, iPhone and iPad devices.

My Soul to Take

The fallout happened in December 2013, a war that eventually destroyed the world and the civilizations that inhabited it, but not everyone become extinct during the New Revolution War. Now almost a century has past and it is the year 2105 and only a small portion of the entire world has been built back up. It is being called the New Nations, a Steampunk like era. Things have changed in the once technically driven 21st century. It?s now the 22nd century and everything has changed from the music to your soul walking outside your body taking the form of an animal, an animal that can talk, but you are the only one that can understand your soul/animal. Which makes you more venerable, once your soul dies, you no longer are free, and once your soul dies you become a blank slate, a slave to the New Nations government.

Djokovic feeling confident for Wimbledon defense

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) ? The question drew a chuckle from Novak Djokovic.

Could the prestigious Grand Slam tournament Wimbledon, officially called simply The Championships, be thought of as a dress rehearsal this year?

After all, the tennis portion of the London Olympics will be held on the same grass courts at the All England Club, starting July 28, three weeks following the end of Wimbledon.

"I don't believe that Wimbledon can be rehearsal for anything," Djokovic said Sunday, gently tapping his fingers on the desk in front of him. "It's (the) most respected, most well-known, most valuable tennis tournament in the world. This is, in my opinion, the pinnacle of our sport. Of course, Olympic Games are something (beyond) comparison with any other tournaments."

OK, so forget the notion of Wimbledon-as-tuneup. Still, the No. 1-ranked Djokovic and others are excited about the prospect of playing at their sport's most hallowed ground for more than one prize this season.

"It is very emotional, because it is not just you who matters there, it's the whole nation. So there is a huge excitement going on with all the tennis players prior to the Olympic Games," said Djokovic, who will carry Serbia's flag at the opening ceremony next month.

Serena Williams explained: "As a tennis player, you get to play Grand Slams, which you get to play every other week, it seems. You don't think about the Olympics. It's just an added bonus."

Djokovic begins the defense of his Wimbledon title ? and, um, Olympic preparations ? on Monday, playing the first match on Centre Court, an honor given the previous year's male champion. He'll face Juan Carlos Ferrero, who won the French Open in 2003 and briefly held the top spot in the ATP rankings that year.

Others scheduled to play on Day 1 include No. 3 Roger Federer, a six-time Wimbledon champion, against 43rd-ranked Albert Ramos; No. 1 Maria Sharapova against 133rd-ranked Anastasia Rodionova; five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams against 79th-ranked Elena Vesnina; four-time major champion Kim Clijsters, who's entered in the tournament for the final time before retiring in September, against another former No. 1, Jelena Jankovic; along with Americans John Isner, James Blake, Ryan Harrison, Christina McHale, Melanie Oudin and Sloane Stephens.

They'll all be wearing "almost entirely white" clothing to adhere to the tournament's strict rules, which call for a player to be defaulted if not in proper attire. That'll change come Olympic time, though, as will other aspects of the look and feel of the place ? such as the sure-to-be-ubiquitous five-ring logos.

Clijsters spoke Sunday about recently receiving her Belgian Olympic outfit.

"I saw the red skirt," she recounted. "I was like, 'Red skirt at Wimbledon?'"

Said Djokovic: "It's going to be interesting to see colors in Wimbledon, I believe, because we always go out on the court all-white dressed. We're going to have the opportunity to wear the national colors, so it's going to be interesting to see that."

Then, turning to tennis talk, he added: "Knowing that I had great success in 2011 on Wimbledon grass actually gives me confidence before this year's Wimbledon and Olympic Games."

Not that he lacks self-belief anywhere. Or should.

Djokovic won four of the last six Grand Slam titles, and nearly became the first man in 43 years to earn four in a row. But his 27-match winning streak at major tournaments ended with a four-set loss to No. 2 Rafael Nadal in the French Open final two weeks ago.

Asked how he was able to put that in the past, Djokovic replied: "Well, I had to."

"It's behind me now ? I was so close ? even though there was a slight disappointment after the match, because I was aware of the chance that I had in Roland Garros," he said. "But the day after, I felt good about my tournament, about my achievement in Paris. It was the first time I ever have been in the finals of Roland Garros. ... I'm still only 25, so I believe that I have a lot more years and a lot more chances to win Roland Garros."

He famously plucked some blades of grass from the Centre Court lawn, then shoved them in his mouth, after beating Nadal in last year's Wimbledon final.

That was Djokovic's first title of any sort on grass, allowed him to overtake Nadal atop the rankings and cemented the Serb as the new man to beat in tennis. He followed that up by beating Nadal in the finals at the U.S. Open in September and Australian Open in January, too.

They are the first men to meet in four successive Grand Slam finals; even Nadal and Federer never played each other in more than two in a row, although their eight major finals overall (Nadal leads 6-2) is a record.

"When I started to play well, Roger always was there. With Novak, it's little bit the other way: I was there, and then he came," said Nadal, who has played in five Wimbledon finals, winning two. "So (it's) difficult for me to analyze which rivalry is more important, less important, more attractive, less attractive."

There is something about which Nadal is certain, however, when it comes to all of these matchups with Djokovic and Federer on the sport's biggest stages.

"If you are not able to improve your level of tennis," Nadal said, "you are dead."

Wieters' 2-run HR in 8th lifts Orioles

BALTIMORE (AP) - A tense interleague series between two neighboring teams with exceptional pitching staffs was decided by a timely swing from a player who almost got the day off.

Matt Wieters hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to interrupt Baltimore's agonizing offensive struggle, and the Orioles squeezed past the Washington Nationals 2-1 Sunday.

Baltimore appeared headed for its third shutout loss in six games before Adam Jones led off the eighth with a single off Sean Burnett (0-1) and Wieters drove an 0-1 pitch over the center-field wall.

"It felt great," Wieters said. "Everyone was battling up there, trying to grind through at-bats to get a run, and to finally get one was great."

After Wieters gave Baltimore the lead, he sealed the victory in the ninth. With one out, Jim Johnson struck out Danny Espinosa and Wieters threw out Ian Desmond attempting to steal second base.

"Any out you can get, especially the 27th out, is huge," Wieters said.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter considered resting his workhorse catcher, who also played Saturday night, then decided against it.

"I came close to not playing Matt, with an off-day (Monday)," Showalter said.

Prior to the home run, the Orioles wasted several scoring opportunities and stranded eight runners over seven innings. Baltimore scored only five runs in the series and went 1 for 16 with runners in scoring position, yet still managed to win two of three.

"You win games with pitching," Wieters said. "And then it takes one big swing, or a couple of guys to get on and find some holes, and then you're right back in the lead."

The way the Orioles were hitting, it seemed unlikely they would mount a sustained attack against the Nationals. Fortunately, Wieters gave Baltimore everything it needed for another interleague victory.

"Clutch," teammate J.J, Hardy said. "I mean, to win a ballgame like that the way we've been swinging was something we needed. It just didn't seem like we were going to piece together a bunch of hits."

The Orioles finished 11-7 in interleague play and won five of six series.

Pedro Strop (4-2) got the final out in the eighth for Baltimore and Johnson worked the ninth for his 22nd save.

Ryan Zimmerman had the lone RBI for the Nationals, who scored five runs in the series. Washington was 34-2 when leading after seven innings.

The Nationals looked every bit like the team with the best ERA in the majors - except for that one pitch to Wieters.

"He just got a fastball over the heart of the plate," Washington manager Davey Johnson said.

"I tried to go with my strength and left the ball out over the plate," Burnett said. "He's a good hitter and made me pay for it."

Wieters' hit turned the series in Baltimore's favor. The Orioles won the opener 2-1, then lost 3-1 before taking the finale.

"We play a lot of close games, and our bullpen expects to get the job done in those situations," Burnett said. "Today I let one slip away."

Making his first start for the Nationals since May 25, Ross Detwiler allowed four hits and walked two in five innings. In his previous start against Baltimore on May 19, the left-hander gave up six runs. But that was at a point in the season when the Orioles scored 32 runs over a six-game span.

Jake Arrieta gave up one run and five hits in six innings, and it still took an unlikely comeback by the Orioles for him to avoid becoming the first 10-game loser in the big leagues this season.

Zimmerman snapped a 5-for-49 slump and gave Washington a 1-0 third-inning lead with a two-out single that scored Jhonatan Solano. Zimmerman, who had a cortisone shot in his ailing right shoulder before the game, went 2 for 4.

Detwiler retired his first seven batters and was cruising until the fourth, when Baltimore loaded the bases with two outs. Ronny Paulino hit a harmless fly ball to end the threat.

In the Orioles fifth, two singles and a groundout put runners on second and third with two outs for Jones, who hit a fly ball to deep left.

Bryce Harper led off the Washington sixth by turning a bouncer up the middle into a dash-for-second double, but Arrieta worked out of trouble by getting Desmond to hit a two-out popup.

Baltimore's frustration continued in the seventh, when Hardy grounded out with runners on second and third and two outs.

NOTES: On Monday night in Colorado, Washington RHP Stephen Strasburg vies to become the first player in Nationals history to win seven consecutive starts. ... The Orioles open a two-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. LHP Dana Eveland likely will begin paternity leave on that day, and it's possible that RHP Matt Lindstrom (finger) will be activated from the disabled list to fill out the Baltimore roster. ... Nationals closer Drew Storen, who had elbow surgery in April, hopes to make his season debut next weekend in Atlanta. ... Held out of the starting lineup in part because of an 0-for-28 slump, Baltimore's Chris Davis flied out as a pinch hitter. ... The Orioles have gone 17 straight games without a stolen base, their longest such streak since a 20-game run in June 1962.
