Cloud communications services are pretty common, but there are many different models. I surveyed this market a couple of years ago in the "2011 Ultimate Guide to VoIP and UC Services" and found 210 providers offering CaaS and UCaaS in the U.S. Many offer basic telephony, while others offer full Unified Communications. Many of these services are startups, while a few view their services as carrier class. Genband has joined the latter class with a white-label service called NUViA.

NUViA consists of a suite of Multimedia Communications bundles and service establishment support. Features include:

* A suite of differentiated offers including multimedia messaging, multimedia conferencing and collaboration, mobility, high definition voice over IP, and desktop integration
* Rich Communications Service (RCS), which provides mobile UC features
* Mobile and desktop clients and agent support
* Flexible on-demand cloud capacity and elasticity
* Interoperability with a wide variety of fixed and mobile IP endpoints and CPE
* Business continuity and communications reliability

Genband stressed particular features and characteristics of NUViA that it says will be especially attractive to service providers and channel partners:

* Multi-tenancy capabilities
* Support from services professionals to help with the cloud migration
* Broad service enablement capabilities for partners, including network operations and maintenance and customer provisioning, as well as enterprise Session Border Control and customer premises equipment (CPE) as required
* Reselling Genband's service lets service providers more quickly penetrate new markets and test viability of services and bundles

Genband already has a customer for the new offering: Arrow S3, which will market the NUViA service under the SynapS3 ucCLOUD brand.
